Switch off or disable fax machine?

Re the HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Fax Machine ..... Anyone know if it is possible to switch off or disconnect the fax machine facility, and just use this machine as a printer only?

The problem is this. On incoming calls where there's no reply, if the machine is switched on (being used as a printer) the fax tone is heard by the caller, instead of the answerphone. The machine will never be used to send or receive faxes, and I am trying to turn off the fax facility.

Anyone know anything about this please? TIA. xxx

1. Press Setup.
2. Press the right arrow to select Fax Settings, and then press OK.
3. Press the right arrow to select Answer Options, and then press OK.
4. Press the right arrow to select Auto Answer, and then press OK.
5. Press the right arrow to select On or Off as appropriate for your setup, and then
press OK.
When Auto Answer is On, the device answers calls automatically. When Auto
Answer is Off, it does not answer calls.

I just spotted the part where Chapie said it will never be used to send or receive faxes!!

Agree with AC in that case, just disconnect it from the phone line.

Sadly, no, AC. I popped a note in the post, to her home address, asking her to let us know that she is okay, but she hasn't posted anything on here to my knowledge.

How about asking a neighbor about Ethel....they would know if she was hospitalised?

She had some really bad health probs the last time I heard from her....about March, after her Canaries trip.

I've just been Skyping Ethel to see whether she's ok & there's no answer, I just hope she's alright, can't think of any other way of contacting her. Ron.

Sorry tambo, only just noticed your post on this thread.

I thought about asking Ethel's neighbours, but how would we find their telephone number without their name? I typed in Ethel's address and found someone who lives in the same street, so I rang them but they didn't know her.

Ron, I also tried on Skype and left a message, asking her to get in touch. That was a few weeks ago. I have heard nothing.
