I understand the 0845 telephone prefix (and several others) are fixed rate numbers used by businesses and providers of services. I recently had a call from an 0845 number to do with security that I felt was suspicious. There is much about these numbers on the internet but, as is often the case, simple answers to simple questions are difficult to find. Can anyone help please:- Who issues these numbers and (presumably) would have a record of who they were issued to? Is there any way of establishing the origin of such a call? Thanks for any advice.
This may assist if you use it to try to find the alternative non-0845 number.
If anybody rings me and asks sensitive questions I tell them I am not answering because I have no way of knowing they are who they say they are. If they want information they can write to me.
All carriers and switchless resellers have been allocated their own 0845 Number ranges and these can be found at ukphoneinfo.com or magsys.co.uk. Hope this helps !!
The call I received sounded mainly recorded, asking me to key in information. 1471 gave me the caller's number. You have given me quite a bit of exploring to do! Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply.
I've put the matter in writing to my Bank Manager. Further I checked my account on line and found a fraudulent debit, but think it may not be anything to do with the phone call as I didn't give any information. Now waiting for a new debit card. It's sickening but one does have to keep an eye on these things.
