Post an Answer on p2 of this thread nor working!
PB, I have often seen /' for ' and attributed it to the poster hitting both keys by accident. The case you link to has two exs of this in succession, which does make me wonder.
"I always use single inverted commas, because on old AB double inverted commas used to put " in instead."
As you see you dont need to avoid them as long as the hypertext on here is bust, and all you can post is text (without the Preview!). But what sort of hypertext was it that converted " to "? That is the OPPOSITE of what it's supposed to do! Mind you, online newspaper software and such is often equally incompetent.

Yes, well PB, as I have said in my previous posts it all proves you right.
I did say your two corruptiond in succession made me wonder.
And I did replicate the phenomenon we were talking about by entering a sequence with ' in the Search Bar and seeing that ' corrupted to \'. That was obviously what you had been talking about, although we had both got the exact form of the corruption wrong.
Perhaps it would have been less confusing if I had said "One sees ' in the bar after one has typed it, then Return changes it to \', but the results are as one typed it." By saying 'you' for 'one' I may have given the impression that I was talking about you when I was talking about myself!
People mock the "Royal 'one'", but it would have forestalled that confusion here.
Let's see what the software makes of that batch of inverted commas!
