There have been several instances I know of where the question has been closed.

I do not see the point of this function, especially when it seems to be only misused.

Or at the very least make it so a question can't be closed until it has had a set number of answers.
It is only in a small minority of cases where this has happened and you can still report that question if you think that it misuse.
yes, disabling the function whereby an answer lands an email in your inbox ought to be enough. And apparently that was disabled long ago. Apart from that, this is supposed to be an archive of useful material, so there doesn't seem any point in preventing people from adding to it.
The closing thread option has proved handy in CB when the thread has gotten out of hand in some way. I do agree that it is open to abuse though. Some new posters have mistakenly closed their threads in other sections.
I agree it's handy in some instances, how about if a question is closed there is the option for other users to request it is re-opened by the ED.

I agree that in the case of Rov1200 he has abused the function to air his views without them being questioned.
I reported Rov's question. The bl**dy thing is still stuck up there. Clearly the Ed doesn't agree with Gromit's eminently sensible suggestion.
