category c water damage

ive seen a car for sale that is category c water damage, should i buy it and how bad would it have to be to be a category c? thanks

i would avoid unless you know exactly what happened to it, apart from siezed engines which will be fairly obvious there are the hidden issues regarding electrics suffering from corrosion. I know of a fairly late vehicle that suffered flood damage to about 1/2 way up the body, the complete vehicle wiring loom had to be replaced all the electronic modules many of which are hidden under the carpet, they control airbags etc.also side airbags had to be replaced, the list went on. Then it had to go to main dealer to be reprogramed and sort the other issues out with the electrics ...cost £1,000s,
at the end it was supposed to go on a forecourt, it actually ended up being sent to auction to get out of it...a ticking time bomb.

water damage on a cra means the interior will smell like the bottom of a fish pond within a very short period.
if i remember correctly " and im sure ill be corrected if wrong" category C is the worst kind of damage

Water damage can cause not only the interior of the vehicle to need replacing but also the electrics as these become water logged , things like the ECU " control unit " of cars dont take to water very well at all , to be honest i would personaly avoid this vehicle as i can imagine even using second hand parts this is going to cost a fortune to repair

thanks both, spoke to the seller and he started going on about how he'd changed the engine for another and the damage and so on so so i said no thanks.
