hmmm... you could discuss how the greater realism of renaissance paintings (as opposed to the fairly stiff representations in earlier medieval work) reflect a growing interest in humanity as opposed to the gods. Or how the impressionists moved away from high-resolution depictions as that role was taken over by the rise of photography.
