48 hour quarantine rule
Hello ABers
I've been on this site before asking a similar question about germs but I cant find it so I thought I'd start a new post
My partners side of the family are very paranoid about being in the company of anyone that is ill and they all go by this 48 hour rule that the schools seem to have.
Fair enough, but they've put me and my two children into quarantine and we're not even ill. We'd visited my sister-in-law and the next day her little one was sick. Because we were in contact with her we've been told not to go out in public by them!!!! My children aren't even ill. This was a nearly a week ago we visited.
I'm getting that wound up because all the family members that are very religious about this 48 hour rule there kids are constantly ill. my views are if there going to get it they'll get a bug whether i keep them in or not. When I was at school if a friend was sick, my mum would take us to visit them after school to make sure they were okay. In my mums day they'd go round to the ill kids house to try and get a bug so they could be off school - but it never worked!!
I wouldn't intentionally take them to ill folks houses but I wouldn't keep them in on the off chance they might get something. goodness, she could've been at the supermarket surrounded by ill folk. where do you stop
Even if they've been in contact with someone thats ended up with chicken pox a week or so later they'll work out the dates and predict when their child is going to get it and cancel all plans and stay in on the day they've predicted the pox. So far they've not have the pox but thats how crazy it is

how they want to live their lives re bugs shouldnt bother you at all. You do whatyou want, though the 48 hour rule when your are actually ill is a good one and well advised.

They've not locked us up but I'm sure it will be frowned upon if we were to go out then whoever we visit gets ill then it would be our fault because we didn't stay in.
Thats the crazy way they think and its driving me crazy. I get an email nearly every couple of days to say my son feels hot, stay away. They even turn you away at the front door if their son has a runny nose
There happy enough to tell me to avoid folk but I'm that polite I wouldn't tell them how silly there being

you have 2 choices. stay in whenever they tell you to and never venture out when the suns shining and the kids want to go to park etc because your in laws have sneezed
or get out and live YOUR life. Allow your kids to get fresh air, meet people, have fun away from home and get some immunity to what bugs are floating around.

I do remember your previous post. Anyway, since the family are so 'germ-a-phobic’ I’d take my kids to visit them every time they (my kids) caught a bug. :-)
Perhaps your partner's family suffers from poorly immune systems. They are too germ conscious and are not allowing themselves to be exposed to germs. Therefore, their immune systems are not getting a chance to 'grow'

Yes, I think there getting worse since my last post. I also think because illness has never been such an issue in my family if someone is sick there sick. No big issue or having to email the whole family to stay away so this just seem so silly
Even my mother in law - i visited her one day and she'd had an upset stomach that morning. She floated about the hosue saying she'll not come near me or my children because of this so she stayed in the dining room. but she was quite happy to make me a cup of tea and eat a cake she'd cut
redcrx & society. You have both said what i think. Their children have no resistance to anything because they've been so sheltered and just catch anything. they could be in quarantine for a month and not see anyone and still catch sick bugs

I am sorry I don't understand this post.Who are these people who seem to want to control your life?
I realise that there are people who are totally paranoid about catching bugs , but why should that affect you -- let them get on with it.
You come across as a sensible person , so why let others wind you up.I don't think for a moment that you would visit anyone if you and your family were ill.
Stay out of it , live your own life freely without hindrance from others, and by the way change your e-mail addy that would put an end to that problem . Good luck.
