I think it would be quite nice if all the stars you gained were totalled!

that's an ok idea, not that I'd want to get into leagues, or anything. It'd be a good indication of the reliablity of the answerererer.

My sentiments exactly... not in a competative fashion
I think the stars / ratings system should be abolished altogether, because it is a bourgeois indulgence which serves only to boost the ego of the individual rather than enhancing the creative output of the community as a whole.
I recently rated some answers on my Age Limit topic & a couple of the ones who didn't receive any 'stars' made it known that they didn't think they should be given on discussion threads. Although, on another discussion thread, one mentioned of the aforementioned wrote 'three stars to all who participated' what's the difference I wondered? Perhaps if AB bans the rating system, it will rid the site of childish squabbles all together!
*Although, on another discussion thread, one of the aforementioned wrote (is what it should have read)!
Twas I Smudge.  I did put three stars to all who participated and not three stars to all who agreed with me though!!!  Best wishes to you xxx

I would like to see the rating system banned.  Three stars to all who participated was my was of thanking everybody.  I shall just say thanks in future.

Seriously, I don't think the rating system achieves anything on a site such as this.  A thankyou at the end of the thread if someone has really helped should be enough.  We all have knowledge in different areas anyway.

FP - Either way, it might be best to 'ban' the rating system altogether, so as not to upset or demean anyone! -xx-
FP - Our posts crossed.
I think it is a good idea in theory, but I have noticed that a lot of people give stars to those who agree with them, as opposed to those who have thoughtful/ correct answers.
Apart from me, do you mean like on the Prince Andrew thread, where no star/ratings have been given to users actually participating in the actual subject, but to someone who is just backing the Questioner?

I've only just realised that the question poster rates the answers - has this always been the case?

I always presumed that AB admin rated good quality answers, not the public - I have indeed changed my mind on this topic now - get rid of stars!

I will now star this posting appropriately :)

I'm for getting rid of the star system!

(It's so easy for discussion to alter minds)

Smudge:  It was me that got the stars!  I actually agreed with the person posing the question by answering 'Well Said' meaning I agreed with his thoughts on Prince Andrew (not that I agreed with his criticism of another contributor to the thread).  I challenge you to a duel at dawn Smudge.......... (only joking)

Question Author
Right that's it - anymore of that and I'll give everyone stars ;)
Don't get too power crazy with those stars, Ashley! :o)

You made me do it....

:p

Gah! That took ages!!

I think we've all learned a valuable lesson about the star system today...

Well, actually I just wasted 10m of my life :( damn

LOL.  Thanks for the giggle

Ashley - I've just popped back to take a look & I just burst out laughing at all your stars. It absolutely cracked me up!

FP - It's great ot have a good sense of humour - I would challenge you to a duel at dawn, but my battle-axe has rusted away in the garage - besides I like you too much!

On that note, I'll bid you all a good night - you to AB Ed!
