What is supposed to happen when you click 'Mark As Best Answer'?

All that seems to happen is those words disappear.

I thought perhaps it sent a bar of Cadbury's down the wire to the provider of the best answer, or clicked up positive points next to their name like ebay.

It used to put 3 stars next to the answer, so others could immediately see what the best answer was.

What happens if a post is marked as Best Answer and then you see a better one a bit later?

Marking the best answer has always puzzled me, nothing happens, I've click on it and Mark as best answer disappears but if I do it to them all it comes back again. I asked ed about that when the new refurb happened but I don't know if it was taken on board.

If you've marked Ron's as best answer, Hopkirk, it doesn't show. I agree with Tony. Best answer is a matter of opinion, so I wouldn't necessarily agree with someone else's assessment - and I wouldn't need to move to ancient Greece to make my decision. I think the whole thing is childish.
