I find it impossible to select text on this website. As soon as I start to click and drag, half the page gets selected.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it likely to be fixed?

Same problem.

Hopefully.

If this is what you mean Indie, here's the answer although it's just not practical for everyone:

Thanks a lot for the link Cetti, that's certainly the problem :)

AB Editor - I'm not actually using Explorer, though. And even if I was, I don't see why I should download an entirely new browser just so the site should work as it's supposed to. Especially seeing as it really should work on the world's most popular browser.

If "Explorer doesn't support" the way the site is written, then it needs to be written differently.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes

Is it likely to be fixed?

Not until Octember, if the recent problems are a reasonable guide

I can select text if I use the double- or triple-click method, but only for one paragraph at a time.

Same problem. Please get it fix AB.
Dear Indie et al...As Cetti's link suggests, Firefox works just fine, at least it does for me. It takes but moments to download - free - so I can't see the problem. Of course, it would be great if things were as they used to be...eg the ability to employ html...but they aren't. Generally, I use IE as usual, but - whenever I want to copy and paste here on AB - I just click on Firefox and do it.

Thanks Quizmonster... Just downloaded it (it didn't take any time at all, it just started installing) and I think I'll use it for selecting text.

I won't use it for general surfing/AnswerBanking because it's a lot more restrictive than my old browser.

On the plus side, I'm pleased to see that the horrible dotted lines aren't quite as bad when using FireFox. On the down side, I don't like the way there's no text editor or the way you can't use <Ctrl> and B etc. for formatting.

Never mind, though. Thanks a lot for the tip.
If you paste the whole of the Answerbank copy into Notepad only the text appears. I then simply transfer the text from Notepad to wherever it is to permanently reside.
Hey Oneeyedtic, are you planning a book?  Just curious why you want permanent records?

There is an easier way Indie, other than downloading Firefox.

Click on Mail, select Send Page, send it to yourself then Copy and Paste what you need. I've just tried it and it works...

me too and I agree about windows, still can't see adverts either and that's supposed to be a browser issue too. When I emailed the techies about another problem recently, they said "that's not a bug , its a feature" I think they were joking......
I am a computer illiterate, so that might explain it but - when I tried both Cetti's and Oneeyedtic's suggestions - I found them vastly more complex than using Firefox!

an even easier solution to this is to triple-click anywhere in the paragraph you want to copy. this should select the paragraph and you can copy it like that.

if you double-click a word you'll select that word, but if you triple click, you'll select the paragraph.

Thank you secretsquiz. That has been bothering me for ages. I like to copy what I post so that it is available to post elsewhere. Your solution works perfectly.

I just tried the triple-clicking method on Secretsquiz's own two-paragraph response above. The first paragraph was successfully highlighted, but the second one was not, remaining stubbornly plain. No-one else's answer here would deign to have itself highlighted either!

I've no doubt the technique is great for single-para answers but it looks a bit dodgy for anything more complex in layout. I'm sticking with Firefox!
