Can AB degenerate any further?
229 Answers
I have indeed posted quite recently about the puerile standard of some threads,CB in particular and yesterday one saw the low standards of posting that I have ever encountered since contributing. I have never been adverse to a little troll "smut humour" but what one was exposed to yesterday was totally unacceptable and completely "un-monitored by our chosen moderators.I do appreciate that their options are limited, but yesterday needed only "common sense" to withdraw many of the posts........a decision of which was quite obvious even to "restricted moderators"
If that was not enough, then in the B&S section, a post on "Abdominal Pain" was answered in the main, although there were some sensible answers, by uninformed, scaremongering, dangerous and amateur medical folk that was verging on the dangerous. Many of the posts on this thread were truly hilarious and brought this section into disrepute.
There is a danger that CB and B&S are going to be regarded as "just a joke"

1) apparently moderators can't remove posts. They did a good job of keeping up with suspending people
2) anyone who posts on an internet forum about a health problem is bound to get a range of answers (and quite frankly get the answers they deserve) and is perfectly at liberty to either act on advice or ignore it and do their own thing. There is a warning at the top of the section that the advice given there is no substitute for proper medical advice. In your opinion the answers were rubbish (my opinion too) but the poster had asked for opinions and got them - the quality of them is frankly neither here nor there. If only there was a law about "bringing a section of AB into disrepute" i might agree with you, but as there isn't, i can help but laugh at your vitriol :)
even when you (i guess you might class yourself/others class you as a qualified medical opinion) post you are only giving an "opinion", just like the other people in that section; being a doctor does not make your opinion "right", only perhaps more likely to be right. Seriously, if anyone is plebby enough to think that asking a question in body and soul is like getting a medical diagnosis, then they really do deserve the answers they get.

Ne'er mind B00, I'm obviously invisible in some areas of AB but it comes in handy :o)
The moderators were clearly doing their part of the job but there was obviously no weekend Ed to follow on with the removal of the posts.
It was an exceptionally bad weekend, granted, but maybe everyone needs to keep calm & carry on instead of going on about the troll problems.
B&S always has had (and will have) conflicting 'advice' and the 'Go immediately to A&E' brigade.

It's all well and good that the offending posters were quickly suspended...but that is small comfort when the filth they post remains.
Because of that-the site is continually weakened, and they-the trolls- still have the power to control the site...NOT a moderator who SHOULD be able to remove such posts immediately. I had thought we had a weekend Ed....if so -that person should be able to handle removals. I suspect there IS no ED on site....and the trolls know this-and take advantage.

<<<There is a warning at the top of the section that the advice given there is no substitute for proper medical advice<<<<
Where?
Advice as you say is just that...advice....you may take it or leave it. if one goes to one´s lawyer, GP, hospital consultant, AB,then one gets informed advice.....you can either take or leave it........provided it is informed, then it is your choice.
<<<i can help but laugh at your vitriol :) <<<
That statement was quite helpful to the thread....
<<<a doctor does not make your opinion "right",<<<
Yes, doctors can and are often wrong............what is your point?....it is at least informed.
<<<Seriously, if anyone is plebby enough to think that asking a question in body and soul is like getting a medical diagnosis, then they really do deserve the answers they get.<<<<
One does not always come on for a diagnosis, but for many other reason, some of which throw doubt on the efficiency or lack of it in the NHS and in any case 90% of posts on here could be answered by a 4thyear medical student.....and that includes the diagnosis.
My point about yesterdays health post was the posturing, the scaremongering and the irrelevance of many of the answers, to an extent that I have never encountered before
