Yes, it's possibly my all time favourite book. Copies do go for more than average as it's one of those books that those who have lost their treasured copies HAVE to replace. I keep recommending it, but it's a hard sell from the synopsis.

@ Sir Alec, it is indeed one hell of a book - one of the few books I have read that really changed the way I look at things. The TV production was not a patch on the book (though probably seems better if you haven't read the novel) and misses out a huge chunk of the story to squeeze it down to suitable length. A mini-series would be a much better proposition.

@DaisyNonna, it does turn up in second hand/charity shops regularly.

It's a superbly moving and spiritual book, author William Horwood. It's about cerebral palsy, abandonment, cruelty, love, you name it. I've read it twice now and unfortunately lent it to a friend. It made a huge impression on me first time round and I would recommend it to anyone, particularly to anyone with a friend or relative suffering from this cruel illness.

I agree a totally amazing book...even though i haven't read it for years I won't part with my copy.
