I am 12 years old and love reading. I am currently reading books by Michael Morpurgo however I want to try something new. The main genres/themes i read are adventure/fantasy although i am quite open-minded and am willing to try all thoughts of books. I am a girl. Answers much appreciated thanks.
Stephen King books are really good, often scary though. I started with The Shining as a personal study project at school when I was 14 and have read quite a few since. Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot and Carrie are other personal favourites. I've got Insomnia ready next to my bed but i'm a bit scared to start it haha :)
Have you read Derek Landy's Skullduggery Pleasant series? My daughter started them about your age and she is desperately waiting for the next installment due in a couple of months.
Ahh Chrissa, I remember when Harry Potter came out, I loved it and couldn't put the books down. Atika, I havent long finished reading 2 books by Lauren Kate, called Fallen and Tormented. I really enjoyed them and really easy to read x
us too Karen - we have it on pre-order. Going to see him at the Edinburgh Festival next week!
atika - I think you would enjoy suzanne Collins - hunger games series. My boys have just whizzed through the Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series but i don't know if that is too boyish for you, and if you don't mind a bit of horror, then Darren Shan might be an option. If you want something completely different then Jean M Auel's Earth's children series (I think the firts one is The Clan of The Cave bear). This would probably be quite challenging for a 12 year old, but you might be up for a challenge!
I could suggest an endless list, all suggestions already are great. I also suggest:
The wind on fire trilogy by William Nicholson
Phillip Pullmans Dark materials trilogy.
also my favourite book which is a definite must read The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan (Ive lost count of the amount if times ive read it!).
Can I second the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, starting with Northern Lights (or The Golden Compass)? Beautifully written, fantastic imagination, searingly emotional - and a great young female lead!
Just get yourself Game of Thrones!!!! Brilliant fantasy read, I'm on book 2 now and loving it! Oh and btw I'm a 42 year old lass but was recommended this by my son.
For fantasy, try James Clemens - he has five books in the Wit'ch Fire series and they are brilliant. I loathe fantasy novels, but found I could not put them down.
