How do I find year of publication?
9 Answers
I have an old cookery book but it does not have a year of publication anywhere in it nor does it have a publication number. Is there a way I can find out the year of publication?
Thanks.
Thanks.

There have been many reissues but here is one to compare visually.

The British Library Catalogue states that the first volume with that exact title was published in 1915.
However it had previously appeared as "All About Cookery. A collection of practical recipes" by Isabella Mary Beeton in 1871 (published by Ward, Lock & Tyler, London).
But nearly all of the recipes had already appeared in "Beeton’s Book of Household Management", which Mrs Beeton had self-published in 1859.
Given that Mrs Beeton is recognised as one of greatest plagiarists ever, most of the recipes will have been published by someone else well before then!
