Does anyone know 1. who said that women had no soul and couldn't love and then paid for this remark by having a plate broken over his head?
And 2. Which "writer" once stated he came up with plot devices, only to read the latest Agatha Christie book and realise she had beaten "him" to it ?
Both words writer and him are in inverted commas in the question. Thanks

1 Frieda Lawrence wife of DH Lawrence .
Hi, this is the closest I could find for your first question, but don't think it's right - just thought you might find it interesting. (Actually I think it refers to a robot, lol!)

Cognition is not fighting, but once someone knows a lot, he will have much to fight for, ... They are mechanically more perfect than we are, they have an astounding intellectual capacity, but they have no soul. ... Do not spare the women. ...

That's uncanny, ShaneyStar - I thought 0f D H Lawrence when I first read the question and researched his book, "Women in Love" - so give me a biscuit for being close? :)
