I have read reviews of the Tom Cruise attempt at portraying Jack Reacher and they have not been in favour – with which I heartily concur. Then yesterday I saw a picture of Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables in the Daily Mail and thought that he would be able to play the part far better. He is almost as tall as Reacher and almost as bulky so that we could believe in the portrayal. Sorry I do not know how to link to the picture – perhaps a cleverer person will be able to help. Anyone agree with me?

I've never read any of the Jack Reacher books so I have not a clue about the character...

Gerard Butler's quite tall though... He can be my suggestion :)
There's always a guy from a wee bit north of Embra, Kevin McKidd, although he doesn't quite hit 6ft.
Sean Bean's under 6 foot too but he'll always look tall to me (sigh)
Lee Child's Jack Reacher books are good erin. He's an ex marine in an army investigation unit, tall rugged with no permanent home. All he has is a folding toothbrush and what he stands up in, no baggage. He'll go to a shop and buy more clothes and throw his dirty ones away. Somehow Tom Cruise misses that point completely, but Lee Child has nominated him to play the part.
Oh I think my Gerard Butler suggestion was a good one then, AYG :)

Gerard Butler is 6ft 1in and acts like a plank (imo), so that's probably near enough
Cameron McKintosh and Lord Webber must be the most bored barstewards ever in the history of theatre production . From Cats to Miserables year in, year bloody out. Do you never get bored with the crap ?
I saw Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma! back in the 90s (on stage in London with Maureen Lipman). Where is he now, touring the provinces?
He's in the Les Mis film Jno playing Jean Valjean.
oh that's a shame, I thought he was doing well as a stage actor.
My choice would definitely be Liam Neeson. Im a massive Jack Reacher fan. In the books he is described as being 6'5" and built like the proverbial. He is charismatic, but not conventionally handsome, and as he has retired from the army after fairly long service, I always assume him to be late 40's early 50's. Neeson would be perfect!

Joe Manganiello or Gerard Butler would be my choice on looks. Gerard Butler has the edge for me as he looks like he has a degree of toughness in his face that I imagine from the books description of JR. Tom Cruise is a ludicrous choice
Too pretty wolf! ;o)
Casting Tom Cruise has put me off ever wanting to go and watch this film.
I don't know who Jack Reacher is. Have I been hibernating?
Evere since wayne was in the Quiet Man its all gone down hill. DvD the cockney in whas its name My fair lady was it .
as if...Jno...I incidentally I have a personal link with Connery family......

The consensus appears to be that Tom Cruise is not the right actor for this part even though we are unable to agree on a better candidate. I do hope that they do not do more Reacher films without a change of actor. Cruise is 3 inches below average height for a man in USA, whereas Reacher is about 7 inches above average height, and only just 2 inches above average height for a woman. Do they stand him on a box for scenes with ladies or only choose short actresses?
How about a home grown actor - Tom Ellis, about 6' 3" (appears in Miranda and is ex Eastenders)? Really dishy.
