Thanks QM. Now, who was Moab and what was a washpot? Don't have time to read all of Pslams tonight for an explanation I probably wouldn't understand anyway. What is the relevance to Stephen Fry I wonder?
Moab, a country in the Old Testament, which had threatened Israel, was to be so completely subdued, and become so utterly contemptible as to be likened to a washpot or basin in which men wash their feet...
Were there any particlarly anit-homsexual views expressed therein? I only ask as Mr Fry is very proud to be gay (and why not) and wondered if he is sticking two fingers up to organised religion in some way
I think the reference has something to do with him airing all his "sins" in order to achieve forgiveness from his "victims". I own the book, but haven't read it for a few years, but I seem to remember that this was what he was referring to.
When I read the book I decided that MOAB stood for "My Own AutoBiography". It made some sense as he did seem to be using it to wash away some past sins. I missed the religious reference as along with many other passages in the book I lack his education & intelligence.
