according to the book, they were in the process of making a film which was going to be similar to the book. yes i know a film was made, but was it similar to the book?

I really dont know if the film is as good as the book. I have not seen the film or read the book. I always remember my parents and grandparents talk of this horse in later years. (They always seemed to compare one horse with another down the years) Seabiscuit ,Proletariat, Arkle etc.
Ps I do hope you enjoy the book, May well have a read myself.

Just to add, another couple of films about great racehorses, Phar Lap and Secretariat are worth a watch
