Airliner Shot Down Or Was It?

I read a book some time ago based on truth regarding the disappearance of an airliner just off the US coast at the time of a big naval exercise. Two lovers on the beach accidentally film the incident. The story revolves about what should be done with the tape and should the government be allowed to cover up the details and deny responsibility. There is a wonderful twist to the end.
I would love to read this again but cannot remember the title or author. Can anyone help please?

the book is "night fall" by nelson demille.

it's based on the affair of flight TW800, officially ascribed by the ntsb to an explosion in an empty fuel tank, probably caused by an electrical fault; but, according to all sorts of conspiracy theories, this is an explanation wide of the mark.
