I just finished David Mitchell's "Slade House" and it's the first of his that I'd not recommend. I enjoyed the "interconnectedness" of it with others of his, but it didn't have any of the playfulness of something like number9dream.

Trying to work through my unread pile, giving "the geats of beowulf" a bash currently. It's a historical/geographical exploration of the "real" tribes that inform that foundational story.

I have just finished reading The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss, the follow up to The Name Of The Wind. I am now waiting for part three to be released so have gone back to Peace and War by Joe Haldeman, the omnibus edition, and have begun to read it once again.

Yesterday, from the Salvation Army charity shop, I bought

a)My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult.
b) The Soul of Discretion, Susan Hill.
c) The Cuckoo's Calling, Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling)

Cost me £3.75. :-)

I have met and interviewed John Lydon and found him highly intelligent and erudite.

Given that he was instrumental in the last seismic shift in British music, I think he is entitled to have an ego, but I found him refreshingly honest and down to earth.

Looking forward to reading his book.

The 2013 set that P.I.L. played at Glastonbury was one of the best ever and Lydon was inspired. But Lu Edmonds latterly of The Damned and The Mekons was brilliant on guitar and Saz. The full concert is on youtube and worth watching. I have not posted it on purpose as this is Elina's thread regarding books.

It's my birthday next month, and ideally I will get copies of the new Bruce Springsteen autobiography, and, as tradition dictates, the new jack Reacher.

Only just read these, love seeing what people are in to. Togo, feel free. You got a bargain Tilly. Andy, yes he's very intelligent, I love listening to his interviews. His ego is well earned as you say!

Just purchased a couple of Ian Rankin's for Kindle on offer. Read them all but happy to reread it's been a while!

You can get some brilliant bargains chelle, now I prefer e-books.

Haven't read a book for a while now. Last one I read about 18 months ago was 'Exit Darkness Enter Light" by Kion Ahadi. A very good read. Couldn't put it down! (Always a sign of a good book) It's a mixture o fantasy, conspiracies and past lives. Very intriguing. It's a trilogy and the second is almost done. I realise it won't be to everybody's taste, but to those it does, you won't be disappointed.

He freely admits he's not the best singer, he likes to write though and has great stage presence doesn't he. I'd have loved to have seen him in the early years. Rise .. about South Africa under apartheid, I love that track.
