A little while ago I said I couldn’t get into this book and someone here (sorry, I’ve forgotten who it was and which thread it was on) advised me to persevere. I took the advice and enjoyed the book very much – so whoever it was, thank you.

Any more recommendations for good psychological thrillers would be very much appreciated.

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh and I See You by the same author are both good, especially the former.

Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris.

In A Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. Her the Woman in Cabin 10 is good too.

Bit of an older one but I loved Gone Girl. Her other ones are very dark (well darker) though.

Thanks Eve. I've just finished 'Behind Closed Doors'. Although I found myself picking holes in the practicalities of the plot (who, for example, did the housework and managed that enormous garden) I managed to overlook them and enjoy the book regardless.

I'll certainly try the others.

I enjoyed 'Try Not To Breathe' by Holly Seddon too.

I really didn't enjoy TGOTT, I found it a bit too formulaic and somewhat predictable. I also felt that it was stuffed full of unnecessary narrative that added little.

I'll look in to the other recommenations though.

I thought The Girl On The Train was gripping, until ...

They found the body.

I thought a big part of the suspense was ... what happened to the missing girl? Was she murdered? Kidnapped? Is she still alive? Did she go off for some reason? Will she be part of a plot twist?

Oh ... she's dead then?

It sort of lost a lot of the tension from the story.

I think the winner will be 'The Sellout' by Paul Beatty.

My son reads a lot of books and has recently read 'Close Your Eyes' by Michael Robotham. He thought it a very clever plot. Recommended by Stephen King.

I have not, Naomi.. I rather stupidly expected a novel, not a script... Would you recommend it?

scorpiojo, For obvious reasons it didn't make the easiest reading and since it is a script I’d hesitate to readily recommend it to anyone other than an avid fan like me. I enjoyed it but to a seasoned Harry Potter reader it is evident that J K Rowling wasn’t alone in its composition. Being familiar with all the books I felt that parts of the new story simply didn’t gel (with me at least) and I found that mildly irritating. A good storyline though – totally unexpected!

Perhaps, if we’re lucky, Rowling will write the book without input from others.
