Any book lovers on here ever feel nostalgic for second hand bookshops?
Visited this one today http://www.cheshiresouth.org.uk/churches/alsager/hassall-road-bookshop.html
But it seems a rarity now to actually find one. Years ago my home city had several dotted around the place and I'd spend hours in them, picking up a gem or two here and there. Now sadly all gone.
I know that times change and that nowadays people are using Kindles or simply ordering off Amazon but there is just that 'something' about the smell, feel, ambience etc of an old second hand bookshop.
Then again, perhaps I'm just a bit cuckoo... :-)

Reading is far more difficult for me now but I agree totally with your sentiments.
no you aren't cuckoo......There used to be one in my local city that I loved.....but it didn't make enough to cover the rent and rates.

There are a couple still going in this area, Luv 'em.
I have a kindle, loaded with books but I still go into bookshops, especially charity book shops.
Have loads of paper & hardbacks and have no room left at home. I donate once I've read them now.

I love them too nailit but sadly they are now few and far between
hc...was it you who recommended Kennith Williams Diaries?
We have a little second hand charity book shop and I always take my books there. I even drag my holiday reading books home again so that I can donate them. They are doing quite well at the moment as they have set up a pile of books with an honesty box on the counter of the train station next door. There used to be a street in LondonSoho that had loads of second hand bookshops - don't know if they are still there.
This is the website for our local second hand bookshop. It is a fantastic place but when I go in I lose track of time. I wander around for for too long. :-)

Hope you had a good journey back home today Tills. Loaded up with the local delicacies that Stoke has to offer?
I did, Nails, home in no time but my suitcase was a bit heavy. :-)

Pleasure meeting you.
Ditto, Nails. :-)

Did you find what you were looking for in the bookshop?
i like them, but they are hugely unprofitable, the merchandise is heavy and takes up a load of space and doesn't sell for much
