Just like to straighten the balance here a little
Today at work, we've had a group of youngsters in from the YMCA and they have been an absolute pleasure to work with (all voluntary as well).
Cleaned, decorated and spruced up the workplace.
Please don't tar all 'youngsters' the same and I wont tar all older people the same...
Some younger people, little shi+s
Some older people, little shi+s
Same goes for any group.

I think it is just natural, nailit, for people to understand their own generation best, so it is never an unbiased opinion, just a lack of understandin g really, about changes. Older generations do need to bear in mind though, that they taught all their parenting skills to the next one... so they can't complain if they have failed to be effective parents...

While we are at it,
Had to pick up a (rather large) food donation yesterday from the local Mosque. The Mosque was donating to a Christian charity (Trussel trust) who happens to employ me (an atheist)...Lovely old muslim guy shook my hand and thanked me for picking up their donation, which I then took back to the (Christian) warehouse, (by me, an atheist) to be sorted and distributed to whoever needed it no matter what faith you were and no questions asked.
Isnt this the way life is supposed to be?
Why all the judging?

I am not sure that anyone would disagree with you, however one's main concern is the apparent deterioration in the "youngsters " discipline and increasing disrespect for the ethics and principles for the elderly and society as a whole.
That seems to be the problem and an ever increasing problem with no sign of deceleration or improvement .

That isn't true in my experience, though sqad, although I know it is a cliche that every generation doesn't really understand the next.
Discipline in previous years was often equated to violence- and that clearly hasn't worked!
But all generations deal with different things in different ways.... I don't pretend to agree with or understand everything my children follow... but they are good, respectful people, as are all their friends.
I also, in spite of working with all colours, religions etc. etc, have never yet met a Muslim, say, that doesn't eat bacon or drink alcohol. People rely too much on media hype imo.

I used to warn my pupils, regarding reputations and public perception, that 'Good news is no news', sad but true.
We had to go into the city on the 3.30 bus a couple of years ago. The next day I rang the local school and as it was after hours the Head answered, when I said that I had been on the 3.30 bus he immediately said 'Oh God, what have they done?'. When I told him that his pupils had been so well behaved, chatty etc but nothing excessive you could hear his jaw drop. Apparently no-one had ever phoned his to say how good they'd were, which I think is very sad, they're fast enough to complain.

pixie/naillit.......if you feel that the discipline of the young and the respect for society as a whole, has not deteriorated, then that is your opinion....I will disagree and will respect your opinion but i cannot accept it.
Surely you must agree that knife crime amongst the young has accelerated, even girls and children under 9 years have been found carrying knives.
Is not that an escalation?

I don't know the proper statistics, tbh, sqad, about which groups and which weapons... it was just a generalisation about what I have noticed in real life, rather than media stories.
I still find the group I said above to seem (and esp on AB) the most self-entitled still. Just watch the number of posts on here, where white males melt at "PCness" where anybody other than them achieves something. It is actually very eye-opening, if you are willing to just read and observe xx

Sqad, calm down dear. Give yourself a coronary carrying on like that!
Just stating that Stats can be abused. Ive never met any youngster that wants to knife me and the youngsters that Ive met today have been the youngsters that I grew up with....just want to make an impression and do a good job.
(And they did)
Didn't want to stab me.
