On this photo on the front page of the Express, https://www.express.co.uk/ The King appears to be wearing at least 10 medals, what are these for ?

My grandad fought in the Somme & had a leg amputated in WW1 & had two medals. My dad served for 5 years in the RAF mostly in North Africa during WW2 & he also was given just two, so Charles must have done some amazing service to get ten don't you think?

I seem to have missed out on all his exploits.

At his mother's funeral . . .

"The King wore the Royal Navy No 1 tailcoat with sword, the collar of the Order of the Garter, Order of the Thistle Sash, Order of Merit neck order, Garter Star and Thistle Star.

He also wore full-size medals including the Queen’s Service Order (New Zealand), Coronation Medal, Silver Jubilee Medal, Golden Jubilee Medal, Diamond Jubilee Medal, Platinum Jubilee Medal and a Naval Long Service Good Conduct (LSGC) (three x Additional Service Bars).

Other medals included Canadian Forces Decoration (three x Additional Service Bars), The New Zealand Commemorative Medal, and The New Zealand Armed Forces Award".

what a load of stupid frippery!
PS - OP - if you grandad served in both world wars I would have thought he'd have at least 4 or 5 medals.
not for those gallant service personnel, who go above and beyond their duty
(which side was he on!)
for Chas I meant
not sure what you mean Dave? King Charles was in the Navy and i would have thought he had a medal or more than one for that alone.
His service medals - OK. But all the rest of that claptrap is ridiculous. Why doesn't he just wear a great big hat too like the N Koreans.

yup I thought 2 stars and 3 gongs. - certainly the North Africa star, and what did he do after that? Europe - had its own star
and the gongs are defence medal, kings medal and a third

the ex servicemen here can fill in the accurate details

Me auld Dad never medalled up
an me grandad, 1914-18, medalled up in 1937 - I thought to get his OBE ( indian service) but it wasnt
medals are important to some
Manch - bereaved parents are campaigning for a medal ( = adequate recognition ) for police and or service personnel killed on duty

( I think for the policewomen the one-eyed cop killa killed - - - 10 years ago)

He didn't. Khandro's granddad served in the first World War, and his dad served in the second. Read the OP.
Didn't every participant in WW1 get Pip, Squeak and Wilfred?

OK - I read WW1 as WW11 sorry!
(I thought WW1ers got Pip, Squeak & Wilfred by default)
having said that I only ever found 2 of my grandad's WW1 medals.
