Worried About Leaving My Cat Alone For One Night Out

It’s Diwali season and the big day for those who celebrate is tomorrow (I live in a heavily populated Asian town).
In June, I booked a night out to see a show (I’d no idea it was Diwali back then when I booked). It starts at 7.30pm and their fireworks start at anytime from 5pm to late, round my way. I’m worried about leaving my cat for about 5 hours on his own. I’ve never left him alone with fireworks before. He usually just stays upstairs when anything like this goes on knowing I'm just downstairs. What can I do to add any comfort for him in my absence?
TIA.

Is your mother going with you?

Question Author

Nope, Naomi.  She's not in town currently.

As long as the cat is indoors he should be ok. He'll tuck himself away somewhere.

Thanks, Naomi xx

I am not a cat owner and don't claim to be knowledgeable in feline matters, but can a vet prescribe some sort of sedative/calming?

How is he in his cat travel basket?

Put his basket out, cover it with a blanket and give him some cat nip.

He will be fine.

He hates his carrier, DDIL, but I'll leave catnip around for him upstairs?

You could hire a pet sitter for the evening.

Leave a radio or TV on.

^Good thinking.  We do that for our dogs when we go out.

TV on downstairs (incase he changes a habit of a lifetime and comes down) and radio upstairs. With any luck it will mask the noise.
