Book Club
5 Answers
Morning All,
I'm thinking of starting up a book club.
We already have somewhere to meet so that's not a problem but the trouble is I have no idea how you go about setting one up. How are the books chosen? Do you just randomly talk about the books or particular aspects etc....
Any advice would be appreciated please.
Cheers

Why dont you ask each member to pick a book and then discuss a different one each meeting. It does not have to be a book that they like it may be one that they just don't get or one that they need a spur to read. I would join a group that did that
The way many clubs work is that members draw up a shortlist, each month, either by each nominating a title, or one person nominating several, and they vote on which one they'll read, ready to discuss at the next meeting - where they'll take a vote on the next title, and so on.
The library service I work for operates a book group service, whereby groups are given a list of all the titles available to them and one person in the group is responsible for ordering mutiple copies of books from the library, collecting them and returning them afterwards. Obviously this requires a little more forward planning on their part, especially with very popular titles, but it is a well-used service, so it must be getting something right.

We each choose two titles at the start of the year, discuss what we like about each one and then cut it down to one following that discussion. The only criteria have to be:
Must be generally available
Cannot be too long (or else no-one will finish it)
Not a repeated title
Not same in author in 2 years
SOme people choose books they like, others books they want to read, others books they've heard about
It tends to give a good mixture
