There was a book out recently called something like 'Tractor maintenance in the Urkraine'. I meant to buy it at the time but forgot. Am going to get it a lunchtime today but need the correct title, author and if you have read it, is it worth buying?

thanks

'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' by Marina Lewycka. It's a good fun book. I enjoyed it.

Thanks you, will get it today.

Any good bookshop should be able to get it from tractor and Ukraine.I used to work in a bookshop and we identified books from far less.
I read it over the summer last year. It was a good read, but not a fun book. I found it very sad.

Oh Cr@p, bought it the other night, hope it doesn't depress me too much!!!
Can someone please just give me a really short description.
Question Author
Brom the back of the book -

'Sisters Vera and Nadezhda must put aside a lifetime of feuding to save their emigre engineer father from voluptous gold-digger Valentina. with her proclivity for green satin underwear and boil-in-the-bag cuisine, she willl stop at nothing in her pursuit of Western wealth.

But the sisters' campaign to oust Valentina unearths family secrets, uncovers fifty years of Europe's darkest history and send them back to roots they'd much rather forget'
Thank you for going to the trouble of the synopsis for me.
Much appreciated.
warpig1,

Have you started the book yet? I read it last summer and really enjoyed it. I live near where it was set, so found some of the descriptions quite interesting.

Hope you enjoy it.

HappyBear, finished it over the weekend and found it really enjoyable and easy to read, a little sad in places, the only thing that took away from the book, for me, was the write ups on the back saying it was hilarious, very funny etc. I found it amusing in places but cant say I was holding my sides laughing, as I have done with other books, but would certainly recommend it to friends.
warpig1,

I am glad that you enjoyed the book - I agree with your sentiments entirely about the write up - gently amusing as opposed to rip roaringly funny.

You are an intense reader like me!
