Are books cheaper online?

Is there specific online websites that you would get books from to save lots of money or do you just pick them up in shops?

cheapest books I find are in Tesco. You can get them cheap on Play.com though an you dont need to pay for postage. Depends how old the book is you want?

Amazon seems as cheap as any. You can put in a search on kelkoo.co.uk, though it doesn't seem to cover a wide range of outlets.

For the cheapest books, browse the shelves in charity shops. If there's a book you'd like to read, but you can't find it in the shops, try www.abebooks.co.uk

I buy a lot from Amazon via my job. A lot of the time their prices are cheaper, but when you've added on the postage and packing (unless you've spent enough to qualify for free delivery), you don't actually save that much. That's when they can supply, of course. Beware - if they say something like 'delivery in 4 to 6 weeks', it usually means never.

I don't like buying books from Tesco, because a) they only have the top books in, usually, or at least a very limited selection, and b) they don't really care about the books. Everything is placed higgledy-piggledy (unless it's a Top 10 title), and these places have never heard of alphabetical order.

WH Smith and Waterstones (in Leicester, at least) seem to have limited selections too, and they aren't that cheap either.

My favourite place is Borders. Although they sell the books at the going rate, they often have special offers, and they have loads and loads of titles. Plus you can take a book up to the coffee shop for a gander before you buy - but of course, I would never do that. ;-)

i tend to use this price comparison website when buying books from the net - it searches all book websites for you:

its really good. Just make sure you click on "UK Books" before you search. Also, searching by ISBN number is quicker.

I haven't got a lot of spare cash and so I swap my books on www.readitswapit.co.uk this is a fab site where you register your books and mutally swap with someone else. it's free and only costs you the postage, cos it's just a straight swap!

Sussex Stationers are quite good for cheap books.
