There's Jane, obviously, and Adele, his ward and also the housekeeper who's known him since he was a child and has great respect for him. Then there's the wealthy woman he's courting prior to Jane's departure (sorry, I can't remember her name). You must also remember Adele's mother. These are all very different women - the good, the innocent, the spoilt, the practical and the harlot.
There was Mrs Fairfax, the housekeper and Blanche Ingram who was the daughter of a wealthy neighbour. Rochester also says he had a string of mistresses before coming back to Thornfield Hall, including Adele's mother.
