It's a book (novel about world war one) I heard about a year or two ago - it had only been published in French and had done really well. It's English translation was being delayed for some reason - and I think it should therefore be coming out soon. There were several publishers fighting for the rights for the English translation. I believe it is a fairly lengthy novel and may have had a one word French title.

Does anyone know the title/author/release date in English?

There's a novel about WWII called Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. From the inside front cover: In 1941, Irene Nemirovsky sat down to write a book that would convey the magnitude of what she was living through, not in terms of battles and politicians, but by evoking the domestic lives and personal trials of the ordinary citizens of France. She did not live to see her ambition fulfilled, or to know that, sixty five years later, Suite Francaise would be published for the first time, and hailed as a masterpiece.
Question Author
Thanks for replying but it isn't that it is a novel not a memoir. I think that the author was American but writing in French.
