Is there any point in answering queries if they were posted a day or two earlier? If there is no response to the answers, does that mean the questioner has lost interest and given up? I wonder if laffy would lke to respond, especially as someone has even given helpful websites for one query.

If I know the answer or indeed a way of getting the answer and I see a question with no posts, I'll answer it. (It's very rare I know the answer to something that's stumpled several other members of the site). I don't think it matters whether the author looks at it again or not, I feel like I've done my good deed for the day :c)
I found a question that was possibly over a year old that I knew the answer to (on where someone could find an obscure Chinese movie); the OP must have still been getting emails on replies, as they rated the answer.
China Doll - your good deed for yesterday was introducing me to the word 'stumpled'. Thanks for that!
It is really annoying tho when they dont return to their thread

flicrat? hello, are you still there?
I aim to please Branocophile! :c)
I answered a year-old question and the OP noticed

Hi weeal! Yes I am still around. and so pleased to see some replies.China Doll is right. Of course it is nice to feel of use anyway, but one wants to know that the questioner has got the help I suppose, especially when it is a good cause like finding a book to read to one's children that you enjoyed yourself long ago.
I think that people are going to be less likely to return to an old question now, now that we are not receiving the email alerts. I occasionally look in my "questions that I asked" and am quite surprised to see that I'd asked so many. I try and go back to mine as I think it is polite to thank the (more serious) respondants.
