Hello ailie, you're obviously a fan ... we've read most of the books (and seen all the TV episodes (K. Branagh and C. Henriksson) but can't say that we recall any past history between those two. Butyou know what he's like with women ....

My OH and I are reading Wallander at the moment,OH is reading The Pyramid and I'm getting through "Before the Frost".

Maybe someone else out there will know.

Yes, but I arrived late as a fan.Enjoyed the inner pain & turmoil that KennethBrannagh portrayed in the few stories he filmed.
I did read the first book but didn't enjoy the writing (or was it the translation?) & the story was quite straightforward so I stopped there.
Now I'm really enjoying the Swedish version & the stories seem to be getting better & better. Last night's on BBC4 was amazing & a very minor point was the exchange with the pathologist so I wondered if I'd missed something.
His daughter isn't featuring in the Swedish episodes I've seen so the 2 TV series could almost be about different cops.
HI again Allie, the reason why W's daughter doesn't feature in the second Swedish series is because the actress who played Linda tragically committed suicide after filming "Before the Frost". So she was written out altogether, rather than get someone else to play her. The second series seems to have been filmed in a very different way to the first series. They have, apart from anything else, changed the location of the police station. It used to be in the town square and is now on the harbourside. And the way they film it is so different. And Wallander needed a shave for most of last night's episode (The Sniper) and even wore jeans at one point. And then he occasionally puts on his uniform. We really miss Stefan Lindman in the series, too. That "thing" he had with Wallander's daughter was a good plot. Yes, we think that the pathologist probably fancies Wallander, but she knows that he fancies the Prosecutor Katarina ....Maybe, if Katarina wasn't around things would be different.
Like you ailie, I came late to the swedish Wallander. Mr Q and I had seen the Kenny Branagh version and quite enjoyed them but I actually find the swedish one much better. No problems with the subtitles at all and the storylines and acting are great. Kenny seemed to be down in the dumps most of the time although he did manage to get himself a woman by the end of the last series. Wallander is great Saturday night viewing our house.
Chokkie, are the books easy to read? I'm reading Girl with the dragon tattoo at the moment and not having too much trouble with the names and place names. How many Wallander books are there?
Hi quizzywig,Henning Mankell has written quite a large number of books, but not all of them are about Wallander. I would probably say around 10 are Wallander, you can check this out by looking at the list on Amazon. I think there is a Wallander site as well, ditto Henning Mankell's own site. But don't quote me, I'm not sure. We don't have a problem with the Swedish names, although it's strange to hear them spoken in Swedish, they sound nothing like they are written down. The Wallander books are, in general, quite easy to read, I would say. Hope you'll go on to read the other Millennium Trilogy books, too.
Thanks chokkie, I'll get myself a copy of the first Wallander and see how I like them.

Thanx chokkie, that explains it all. We did laugh at his stubble on his middle aged jowls...not a good look for anyone over 30.
Katarina is growing older in a much more graceful way. My bet is the Pathologist won't stand a chance & the young female cop will get her own series!
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the series pans out! I (and my OH) sincerely hopes that he has a shave for the next episode and gets rid of those jeans! I think you're right about the pathologist, she won't get a look in - much to her chagrin. And you could also be right about the young female cop .... I have just read a non-Wallander book about a female prosecutor, with a whole load of dead bodies. I wish I could remember the title, but that's worth a read, too.
