I am at my wit's end with TALKTALK!
10 Answers
To cut a very long story short, I used to have Tiscali broadband, until Talktalk took over just before Christmas 2009. Since they took over, I experienced bad connection, loss of connection, you name it I experienced it...so TT promised me various things to rectify my broadband like a new router etc which never arrived, I was without broadband for almost a month (January 2010) then I deicded to switch to BT, I cancelled my service with TT and they refuneded me a months subscription as a gesture of goodwill. Now Talktalk keep billing me for a broadband I no longer have, I have emailed them countless times, I have tried to phone them but just get put on hold or cut off, or re-routed to someone else who doesnt have a clue. Now today I arrive home to a debt recovery letter demanding I pay the outstanding amount ! I am at a loss what to do now, as because of this I will now have a bad mark against my credit score through no fault of my own. What can I do to put an end to this ?

You need to send the debt collection agency copies of your emails to TT...
If you are not in a contract period with them you should be fine - its just frustrating that you have to keep making this effort.
If you are still under contract with them - you may have to pay to get out of it... though we didnt with Orange - they let us go eventually as they had provided such a bad service.
it also doesnt seem to have affected our credit too much either!
You can check your credit file and get a note placed against it for future creditors who may look too!
Good luck! and DONT GIVE UP!!

they will be interested in seeing the emails if it prove that roughquest does not owe the money and that TT are billing her incorrectly!
A friend had LLoyds TSB chasing her for a loan - despite her protests it was her ex-husbands and she was not liable for the debt. They sent debt collectors in - and when my friend proved the details to them - they stopped hounding her and referred it back to LloydsTSB
Sometimes these companies just employ muppets who dont terminate bills, contracts or paid debts.. and then the innocent person is chased by a debt collector who believes they ARE liable for it

No contract period, I have once again phoned them and they tell me my account does not exist ! That is was cancelled earlier this year...unbelievable, how can companies like them be so incompetent ? How can they send out debt collection letters willy nilly ? Is there anything I can do to get this bad mark off my credit score ? I am livid....not to mention exhausted.
you can write to them and demand that they correct your credit file within 14 days.. you can also sign up with Experian (which is free for a month trial I think) and you can check your rating isnt damaged and you can place a note on there explaining the situation. I think if you report it to Experian they have to contact TT who have to respond and rectify the situation...

Thank you Nosha123, your advice is a great help...im just astounded...I will print off every email and post copies off to the debt agency tomorrow, see what happens now, there is also the inconveniece of wasting money phoneing these companies up time and time again, and the rates per minute are just phenomenal...why cant we claim back the money we waste from them ?
It's just normal practice with TalkTalk .... poor quality product and bad customer service. I had the same letters threatening me with debt recovery...their helpline said I owed them £4.21 and that they will be handing the debt on to their recovery service if I did not settle imediately. I informed the helpline guy that £4 to him may be a couple of days wages, but to me it meant very little ... he got very upset..!
I told him that I paid by direct debit and had done so for 7 years, so if he wants the money then take it. A month later I cancelled the DD and have never heard from them since other than the credit I received for £4.21............ I dont know, so dont ask ?
Next time you get the opportunity to switch providers have a look at the comparison sites for best broadband provider...o2 stand out, but they have their service supplied by https://www.bethere.c...web/beportal/homepage I opted for BE after a tip from a friend ... I do I wish I had found them sooner. Cant really praise them enough. I have had a really quick fault free connection since I started (7 - 7.5mb average).
And the customer service is excellent..!

Hi Roughquest, I helped a friend of ours a few months ago regarding this bunch of Crp & their so-called services, they would not help our friend in anyway, that was until I started to give them the stick they deserved for the crp service they give, each time I used the word Sht, after a while after giving the the publicity this crp Server deserved they contacted our friend, said they would help, sent an engineer to sort out her problem needless to say she has now moved to another server, I had the same probs with this heap of sht server, I billed them for my phone calls to them this I got from my phone bill £26.00, keep ALL correspondence / phone calls, everything that you can get hold of, you then have the evidence IF they threaten you with court action, let this be a lesson to everyone that think TT are a good server, they are absolute C@RP.
