OK I downloaded the dictionary and installed it. It said that it would take effect next time I start Firefox, no joy, still not getting the correct spellings for English. What am I doing wrong?

Look in your addons. Does it give you the option to enable?
Type some meaningless drivel into the answer box for this question, so that a 'word' is underlined as incorrect. Right-click on it. Underneath the list of spelling options you should see 'languages'. Click on it and select 'English/United Kingdom'.

thanks Chris, I'll try that this evening, at work at the mo on IE.

thanks Chris that worked, now how do I get my bookmarks displayed as before. Now they are under the "firefox" tab and I have to do do 3 clicks to go to one.
Thanks for your reply.

I've never had a 'Firefox' tab. I've just had to experiment to try to see what you're referring to. I got there (I think) by removing the menu bar, so I'm guessing that you've somehow managed to lose yours.

If so, right-click in the small space immediately to the left of the 'minimise' box, at the top right of your screen. Then click on 'menu bar' to show it.

I have a menu bar of sorts but I'd really like it as it was before the upgrade, I just discovered the option under the orange "Firefox" tab so I have the tool bar back so I'm getting there. How do I get the open window tabs below the line where you can type web addresses etc, like it was before!

It's ok Chris, cracked it! Why with a new release do they mangle all your settings!?
Oops!
Crossed posts!

It's taken me a while to get used to 'Open in New Tab' being the first option, rather than the second, when I right-click on a link. I kept opening a new window, rather than a tab, because the order has been switched round.

However, despite several of my add-ons not functioning under Firefox 4, I generally like the improvements. (It could be worse. If Microsoft had been involved, any 'upgrade' would have been certain to make things much harder to use!).

ok thanks Chris, working ok now, just one small thing you know the tabs line, there used to be a little plus sign to the right to open a new tab, that's now to the far right, any idea if it's possible to get that back to where it was, thanks
You've got me beaten there, John ;-)

I've no idea exactly what this theme actually does (or doesn't do) but, if you want Firefox 4 to look like Firefox 3, it might be worth a try:
