Well, at 50 what did I expect, sitting there in that sterile corridor, watching busy people busy being busy?
I could feel a pain in the pit of my stomach, working its way slowly up to my chest, making breathing difficult. I stare aimlessly at the posters on the grimy walls, most of them covering health issues aimed mainly at the young.
What the hell was I doing there, it was just not right, I shouldn’t be here. I move my feet further under the chair wanting to push off, raise from that all encompassing uncomfortable chair and make a dash to, well anywhere, anywhere that’s not here, not now, not today.
The door opens my name is called, I smile, no grimace, a faked smile as I walk with purpose lacking purpose, into the room to greet my faith.

She turned slowly and painfully in bed, trying to gain warmth from the thin blanket. “You alright, pet?” she heard him say. Slowly opening her eyes she saw the man who had loved and cared for her for the last eighteen years; she had always tried to show him gratitude; in her own ways. She sighed; everything hurt; she tried to keep her eyes open to focus on his face but exhaustion overcame her. Her breathing became shallower until she fell asleep for the last time. The man wiped tears from his eyes; “Good dog” he said “I’ll miss you”.
