Dog Behaviour
4 Answers
My neighbour's dog (pedigree labrador, 9 months old bitch) is showing signs of very agressive behaviour towards his girlfriend. The dog is very protective of him but tries to bite the lady, or anyone else that enters the house. Does anyone know of a possible reason for this and if there is anything that could be done. He wondered if a dog therapist or similar could help in this situation? Advice would be appreciated.

Girlfriend needs to do more with her, such as feeding her and walking her, also some basic training. Your friend needs to show his displeasure and discipline (gently) the dog - have the attitude 'thanks for your interference but I'll let you know when I need you to protect me'. A sharp 'no' if she shows any signs of aggression to anyone and put her somewhere else such as another room or in a crate for a time out. Let her back in when he is ready, and then praise when she is being good.
I agree with Lankeela. the dog appears to think that he need protecting, he need to establish his role as pack leader, only then will she realise that he will let her know when he need protecting, I suspect she is unsure of her role in life, leader or follower. Dogs and bitches are happy as followers if they know what their role is.
