I have a limited edition book - a diary, unued, leather bound, large with wildlife pictures on each page. H have the name of the printers and the book binders but both no longer trade. The book was isses under the auspices of the (then) The Wildlife Protection and Concervation Society of Southern Africa. Have tried googling most combinations but so far have drawn a blank - I don't think it's particularly valueable, I'm just interested it why it was issued. Thanks

maybe just a promotional item? Perhaps for Society members only?

that's what I thought JNO, specially as it's one of 550 LE's. - 550 seemed quite a precise number.
Try an email to the Society (now known as WESSA):

Try checking the catalogues of the Library of Congress, the British Library and the Bodleian.
The publication wil probably be noted in at least one of these huge catalogues, and may have a note to explain its publication.
Alternatively, find out what the National Library of South Africa is called ( probably "the National Library of South Africa") and search those catalogues online, too.
