it's apparently a plastic palette which has a sheet of blottingpaper-like stuff underneath, which you wet, with a film on top with allows water to seep slowly through keeping the paint wet but not runny. and comes with a lid. i've never seen one, it was the guy in our framing/art shop who was telling me about them. i googled them but i was hoping to hear from someone who has used one to find out if they're any good or just a gimmick.

i used one years ago...they do work pretty well...but its really just an expensive plastic tray...any tray with a lid would do... if you can just get the paper itd be cheaper
and actually i found it worked pretty well without the top layer - just the damp blotter and a lid, so you could make your own...
