Can anyone tell me what the word 'sex' means in Middlesex, Sussex, Essex etc.
Also, when did it come about (I'm thinking Roman times, but that's more of a guess).

I did some research after reading your post and I found out that they are correct that sex in those places names are for Saxons. I just didn't get why they made it "sex".
