My MIL left my daughter a gold butterfly brooch.

On the back of the body is the inscription, "Hatwa" 1908. I've googled the name but all I've come up with, is that it is probably Indian.

Does anyone know anything about the word or where I might find out more about it. Thanks.

Find an auctioneer and ask it if is good enough to put in an auction. You won't be obliged to put it up for any auction, but you might get some free interesting information from an expert. But you only get a written valuation if you pay for it.
