IMHO children that age shouldn't have a mobile phone unless they can use it responsibly. They obviously cannot, so take the phone away, and the rest of the school holidays can be spent doing community service, litter picking, and hearing about those people whose lives have depended on the emergency services.

I think they should do community service for the rest of the holidays (litter picking or something) - wouldn't be so bloody bored then. (My kids wouldn't dream of pulling a stunt like this so can't say what I would do to my own children.)
Ignore them - take their phones off them & just ignore the little attention seeking ratbags
I doubt it is something I need worry about,

I agree the litter picking etc is good.

I also agree it isnt normal for kids to come up with a plan like that!!!!!! X

No mick. It isnt something you need to worry about x
I really haven't got a clue what I would have done.
Take their phones, computers, televisions etc and ground them for the rest of the summer.
Sell them on ebay ?

^^ good answer xx
I have no idea but I'd hope part of it would at least involve some kind of project in learning about how the emergency services work and the potential costs and consequences of their (and similar) actions and being made to earn at least a large proportion of it back via some kind of community work. An apology in person to some of the police and others involved in their hoax might also make them face to up things more personally too.

I've sat and racked my brains thinking about what I'd do, I have no idea, the only thing certan though, is that the kids definitely wouldn't like it.
One of my friends (remember I am very old) had the birch when he was young for playing truant. He told me he never ever played truant again. This speaks for itself doesn't it, although I know it is not possible now.

Once I had got over my deep deep shame at being one of their parents, I would have immediately confiscated their phones until they could prove to me they warranted having it, and I am no pushover.
Resisting the urge to tan their blummin backsides, I then would have considered why they did this at all, sat them down and told them what the emergency services are needed for..in quite an adult and graphic way.
Then, it's volunteering for the whole holidays, doing something useful.
It's a darn sight better than I would have got if I'd have done this.

Don't get me wrong CraigWhite, I would have to resist pretty hard, but I can be scary enough without it.
