They're all set in Venice. The chief character is a police Commissario called Brunetti, whose self- serving, ambitious boss is a Sicilian.
DL has a very sly wit and a huge insight into how society and politics operate in Italy.
There's no high drama (blood, gore, chases).
Clever and ironic.
One of my favourites too.I wish they would make a tv series .
However I've just read her new book ( not a Brunetti but a stand alone novel ) entitled Jewels of Paradise and it wasn't all that good .
I've read two , one about a glass factory in Murano, the other about an adoption ring, and wasn't keen on either. It didn't help that I kept confusing Brunetti with Aurelio Zen, who is not as firmly rooted in a particular landscape.
LOVE her! I always feel like I've had a little holiday in Venice when I've spent some time with Brunetti and his family and the clever Signorina Elettra.
I discovered her before I went to Venise and those books really helped to give a bit more mystery to the place when I was there (carnival time). Haven't read anything of hers since then though (2009)
