Poem by Alan Sillitoe
5 Answers
I've lost my copy of "Falling out of Love and other poems" by Alan Sillitoe and have been searching in vain for a print-out of the poem concerning the poet's reaction to someone about to jump out of a (sixth storey?) window. I think it starts with the startling command: "Jump, then, jump!" I used to teach this poem way back in the late sixties to encourage tough inner-city teenagers to view poetry as possibly other than soppy romantic twiddle twaddle. Can anyone help please? I'd be most grateful. I suppose I could always buy another copy but I am a skinflint Northerner.

I know nothing about poetry but decided to try and trace the words for your poem. I got nowhere, and without knowing the title of the poem or a reliable phrase from it I don't thing that I will be of any help to you.
Good luck - there are some really clever members of AB and maybe they will be able to help.
