BBC 1 breakfast this morning. Bungalow i knew. Blighty I knew. Dollar I didnt.
Was hoping they would tell us the origin of Booze.

Probably from the Dutch buise, a large drinking vessel. Its earliest appearance in English dates back to around 1300.

nobody's really sure of that one, so they couldn't. But QM's is the most widely accepted guess.

The OED accepts that the word is derived from the Mediaeval Dutch verb 'busen', meaning 'to drink to excess', so it's only the origin of that verb which might be questioned.
