Went to library today first time in a number of years and I had listed quite a number of books of Catherine Cookson that I had not read. Library did not have one book listed or any of Catherine's that I may have read before.
Generally looked about and picked up another 3 books - but think the library has went to the dogs. Hardly any books and very many empty shelves. Is that more cutbacks?
it is a big enough library but shelves were empty - where I live there are a number of libraries which I will have a go but the guy in this library said via computer Catherine's books were nowhere to be had as she was not "demanded" any more. To tell you the truth I don't think he knew what he was doing.
Perhaps you need to expand your choice and go for something that you would not normally read. Say, Dean Koontz - The Corner of His Eye is a brilliantly written, and fully engrossing book.
i wonder if it's because catherine cookson has fallen a bit out of fashion? My library used to let people suggest books for them to buy. I agree with jeza - i think the council decides where to cut and where to spend. perhaps you've just been unlucky. Ours also lets you look online at what's available (so you don't have to trek to the library fruitlessly) and it will get books in from other libraries for you
If you want Catherine Cookson, it would be worth looking in at charity shops as they sell her books from time to time: you may get to find something you have not read for as little as a pound.
it depends on your library - a start would be to go to the website of your particular library (or if you put the name of it someone will do it for you)
I thought I had read most of Catherine - but when I went online to see what she had available I couldnt believe she had written so many and of course I never read them.
