I have also written my life story for my family. Its about what life for me and other like me growing up etc. If you just want one or two copied for personal use there are people who will do it for you who would print off project for college work. Ask around the college's where students might use. Probably cost about £60-70 per copy.

If your book is written in Word, then it can be easily printed in book form by Lulu.com for a very reasonable price.
Single copies can be had for less than £10 – I have done it myself, the results look very professional.
But it takes a bit of time formatting the pages for book printing, with left/right gutterting spacings for page bindings etc, but well worth the effort for the final product.
Such a draft book can be used to submit to literary agents for consideration – much better than a double-spaced typed draft.

Sorry to come in so late. I have a couple of friends who worked in a similar environment, and not that long ago - and the stories of hand-lettering and how last-minute changes were handled are truly fascinating. Given the right angle, I think there could easily be a market for your book.
BUT don't approach publishers yourself. Most don't even open unsolicited MSs. Use the W&AY, as already advised, and get an agent first. Or self-publish first with an aim to 'selling it on' later. Good luck!

I read this the other day and did not have time to respond. I think that people of your age have had a far more interesting life that people from the 60's or 70's with all the hardship that went on during the war and after. Your job must have been artistic talent as there were no computer program's to help etc back then.
Good luck with your book.
Look what happened to Jenny Lee's memoirs. 'Call The Midwife' another ordinary person.
