Incredible Hulk - David or Bruce Banner ?

In the TV series 'The Incredible Hulk' the character's name was David Banner. Does anyone know why this was changed from 'Bruce Banner' as it appeared in the comics ?

Dr. David Bruce Banner in the series. Kenneth Johnson the series producer made a few changes from the characters' origins in comic books.Including Dr Banner's first name. In the comic, it had been Bruce, but Johnson thought this was too stereotypically homosexual. In choosing David, there was also an allusion to David and Goliath. However in the new movie it will return to Bruce.

Since when has Bruce been a gay name? So they thought that David is more masculine did they? Like the magician David Copperfield or David Bowie maybe? Bruce Willis - now there's a real man!
