Arthur Conan Doyle?
Agree with Lordy. Sherlock Holmes has had the most films made about 'him', so must be ACD.
The most filmed writer, by some distance, is Shakespeare. I believe the second most filmed is Dickens.

Most of Graham Greene's books were filmed and so were dozens of Booth Tarkington's

most of the Bond films are not from Ian Fleming books. My suggestion would be Agatha Christie or possibly Enid Blyton if you take the kiddies progs into account.

John Grisham?
I believe that Stephen King has had around 42 film adaptations of his books. That includes short films.

Surely that's got to be the winner?!
I'd have thought Agatha Christie
shakespeare about 400
alexandre dumas about 200
can these be beaten?
Question Author
Shakespeare may have had 400+ films based on his works, they are the same plays filmed over and over again. He didn't write 400 plays did he, so he can't have had the most books made in to films...
a nice semantic point: are we talking about the most films based on an author's works (so Shakespeare wins with his 400 and someone like Mary Shelley would get about 40, but on the basis of only one novel - don't think anyone's ever filmed *The Last Man*, *Valperga*, etc. ) or the most titles to be filmed.
