Being a big Jane Austen fan, I read the book when it first came out - good storyline but did not like P D James style, so I wasn't sure about the tv mini series especially after seeing the trailers. Darcy was not as handsome as Colin Firth or Matthew MacFaddyn and Elizabeth seemed very unsuitable. However, I watched the (recorded) 1st episode last night and loved it. Darcy and Lizzie are perfect and so are the rest of the cast. Going away for a couple of days so I'm squashing the last 2 episodes in tonight so I won't have to wait til the New Year.
Any other ABers watching it? What do you think so far?

I'm loving it and can't wait for the final episode tonight. I think the characters are well cast - Like you I was apprehensive when I saw the trailers. I love Jane Austens style and all her books, I've read them all several times over the years. PD James book is not the same style as Jane Austen but I liked the book and am loving the mini series.

Whilst I don't think it's in keeping with Austen's style, I did enjoy it.

Writing a follow-up to one of the most famous novels of all-time was never going to be easy...

Jenna-Louise Colman (sp?) played Lydia Bennett superbly.
its ok.....not marvellous but ok. better than the book by miles
I found the book quite disappointing, but the TV adaptation definitely seems to have improved on it - maybe as the casting is spot on.
Just couldn't bring myself to watch it. PD James needs to stick to her own characters and not besmirch the wonderful Austen creations in my opinion.
So agree that it's better than the book which is a strange thing, and I particularly liked the flashbacks to thei original story. I did wonder why Lizzie seemed to wear the same colour most of the time.
seems a curious mix of jane austen and agatha christie but i found it very entertaining
I'm thoroughly enjoying it and can't work out what the ending will be - we know it's not Wickham, but can it be the Colonel? Lydia and Mrs Bennett are so annoying - really well played.
The Colonel's burnt letter puzzle will reveal all...I hope!
I'm really enjoying it. It's very well cast. I must admit I wasn't sure about the one playing Lizzie beforehand though I've come around a bit now. I do like Matthew Rhys, since Brothers & Sisters, and I like the way he plays the more shy side of Darcy. Jenna Coleman is great as Lydia and the Colonel is rather nice!

I haven't read the book so looking forward to seeing how it ends.
while it's odd because it's not colin firth and jennifer ehle, it's ok
Can't beat the original BBC version, I remember buying it on DVD and watching the entire thing in one afternoon, all six episodes. I love Lyme Park too, the exterior of Pemberley, the lake isn't quite the same without Mr Darcy striding out of it though in THAT scene...swoon....
Eve, this is the original beeb version of death Comes to Pemberly!
Oh, sorry, I know :) I was referring to bednobs talking about the original Pride and Prejudice BBC adaptation, doesn't need much to get me talking about that Mr Darcy :)
I absolutely LOVED it - best thing on TV for ages. I even recognised it was filmed at beautiful Chatsworth House, one of our favourites for visits.
I did guess the identity of the murderer - did you?
Enjoyed the series. Even read the book by P.D.James but there are another couple of novels about Darcy and Elizabeth set after Pride and Prejudice the author's name escapes me at the moment

Beautiful place, Ann, I like Chatsworth to.
