My Kindle Has Died

My kindle which holds 100-plus books, mostly reference books that I need, has died - probably because I dropped it down the stairs yesterday. All the books were bought from Amazon so my question is if I buy a new kindle can all my books be restored, and how do I arrange for that to be done?

If you buy a new Kindle, when you register it to your account you will probably find that your library will automaticaly download at the same time.

No naomi, you don't. I have 2 kindles, and they're both on, the 2nd being titled "Mrs xxxxx 2nd".

The only reason to de-register a Kindle is to prevent another person getting at your library if you sell the Kindle. You can have as many Kindles on your account as you like.

Naomi, i have a client with two kindles, one has stopped working, but we went to her account and redownloaded all the books she wanted onto her second one. It seems that once you've bought them, you can download them as many times as you like - just register the new kindle to the account.

Thanks Elina - I tried that and everything else, but nothing works. The picture on the screen is broken up and interspersed with bits of text - the result I think of the kindle bouncing all the way down a big wooden staircase. I've ordered a new one.

How old is your Kindle? Amazon used to very good at replacing broken Kindles with refurbished ones, even if they were out of warranty. That was in the early days, when they wanted to reassure people about Kindles shelf life. They may be meaner now, but its worth a try!

GetOverIt, thanks, but it must be about five years old so it was probably close to the end of its life before its journey down the stairs. RIP old kindle. :o)
